Release Date: November 30, 2018
Stay is a song about understanding where you're from, yet detaching yourself enough to look forward to the future. It's a feeling you get when you go back to your roots and stand proudly in the tracks that you've left for future generations to discover. The song started out as an idea around the opening riff and then transformed into a criss-cross of moods during the demo process. In July of 2018, we took it to Miami’s Criteria Recording Studios with our producer Matthew Lewin. Matt’s vision for the song helped bring out a sound that expanded upon what made our previous single Younger so great.
“I wrote the lyrics to Stay with a loose association to my birthplace of Raleigh, North Carolina. I moved away from there when I was about 11 years old, but the area still means a lot to me. I think we all have to learn to let our past go, but understand that it helps shape who you are today.”
- Robbie Kingsley, lead singer
“The song captures an energy that we haven’t tapped into yet. The soft verses followed by the dance-y choruses offer an interesting juxtaposition next to each other.”
- Franco Solari, guitar
The Hails are an alternative/indie rock band based out of Florida. The group was formed by Robbie Kingsley (vocals), Dylan McCue (guitar), Franco Solari (guitar and vocals), Andre Escobar (bass), and Zach Levy (drums) at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Taking inspiration from alt-rock behemoths like Radiohead and contemporary stars like Frank Ocean, The Hails’ sound blends elements of alternative rock with modern groove-oriented pop.
